Registered road motor vehicles and trailers and road traffic accidents, 2020


The number of road motor vehicles registered in 2020 in the Republic of Serbia increased in comparison to the number of registered vehicles in the previous year, by 4.1%. Decrease was noted for buses and special purpose motor vehicles.

Among domestic trademarks, the largest number of registered passenger cars was produced by Zastava trademark. Regarding foreign trademarks, the following manufacturers were the most notable: Volkswagen, Opel, Fiat, Renault, Peugeot, Ford, Citroen and Audi.

The number of first time registered motorcycles in 2020 in the Republic of Serbia increased by 24.9%, relative to the previous year, the number of trailers and semi-trailers by 11.8%, of special purpose motor vehicles by 8.1%. Regarding the number of vehicles manufactured this year, decrease was noted in number of registered mopeds by 7.2%, passengers cars, by 7.9%, lorries, by 7.6% and buses, by 50.9%.

Based on the results, it can be concluded that the most frequent vehicles were lorries (trucks) of the load capacity up to 999 kg, as well as that the majority of such vehicles was with diesel motor energy.  

Regarding the recently manufactured passengers’ vehicles, the most dominant were the vehicles of the engine size of up to 1 399 cm3, and observed in percentages, the number of vehicles with petrol motor energy prevailed over those with diesel motor energy. 

The total number of injury road accidents with killed persons in 2020 decreased by 13.4% when compared to 2019. Greater number of accidents with killed persons was noted within built-up areas and equalled 75.1%, relative to total number of injury road accidents.

The number of casualties in 2020 decreased by 15.1% relative to 2019.
