Within the preparatory activities for the forthcoming Census of Population, Households and Dwellings, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia is organizing the Conference “Towards 2021Census”, witch will be held on 22-23 May 2018.
The Conference is going to be attended by representatives of international statistical institutions and statistical institutes of the region countries, as well as representatives of ministries and other professional and scientific institutions of the Republic of Serbia.
The purpose of the Conference is to promote the Census, exchange of experiences and presenting the ideas and plans regarding the methodological, organizational and technological aspects of the forthcoming Census.
Conference program
1. Challenges of the forthcoming census – importance and international context
Within the first topic the key challenges of the 2021 Census will be discussed, as well as the importance of regional cooperation and the census vision beyond 2021, on the global, regional and national level.
2. The 2021 Census – possibilities, plans, innovations, preparations, pilot census
For the 2021 Census many countries anticipate to introduce important novelties, with the aim to upgrade the efficiency, reduce costs and improve the census quality.
Within this topic expected is the active participation of statistical institutions that will present their plans and experiences regarding the usage of various methodological, organizational and technological solutions (new data collection technologies, quality and risk management, pilot census, etc.).
3. Modernization of statistical product – integration of spatial and census data, visualization, improvement of dissemination
Statistical institutions worldwide are inclined to modernize the production of high quality statistical data and seek the ways to adjust their statistical products to the increasing user demands, to offer user-friendly statistics, as well as to train them to make the best use of statistics.
Within this topic, the national statistical institutions and users of the census data are invited to assess the activities realized so far in this domain, to express their attitudes and offer proposals for upgrading the usefulness of the census data (GIS, interactive maps, infographics and new channels of dissemination).
4. Census data in the service of science and the widest social community
Statistical data are of utmost importance for taking strategic decisions and plans on national, regional and local levels. As a statistical survey ensuring the data on the numbers and characteristics of the entire population up to the lowest territorial level, census has special importance both for the scientific and social community at large.
Within this topic the participants will discuss the necessity of continuous cooperation between statistics and experts, and we will seek the answers to the questions – What are the desires and expectations of the census data users? What are statistical institutions able to ensure? How to upgrade the quality of statistics by undertaking joint actions? How strong is the power of synergy?
