Representatives of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia participated in the Policy Group on Statistical Cooperation (PGSC) meeting, held on 22–23 September 2026 in Chișinău and organised by Eurostat and the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova.
The meeting brought together senior officials and representatives of statistical institutions from EU enlargement countries to exchange experiences and discuss priorities related to further alignment with the European Statistical System. Key topics included preparations under Chapter 18 – Statistics, data availability and dissemination, modernisation of statistical production, and the use of artificial intelligence in official statistics.
During the meeting, Serbia presented several activities and development initiatives of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia. Director Branko Josipović presented the Decision-Making Support System (DMSS), an interactive and customisable dashboard integrating multiple data sources and supporting evidence-based decision-making at both national and local levels. He also presented the Office’s activities and experience in the use of artificial intelligence in statistical production and dissemination, one of the key thematic sessions of the meeting.
Assistant Director Dušan Gavrilović presented major developments within Serbia’s statistical system, as well as the Office’s approach to improving data availability and monitoring alignment with EU statistical requirements. Particular attention was given to the mapping of datasets required under the EU acquis against the Annual Plan of Official Statistics, including the monitoring of data transmission status and implementation plans for datasets not yet transmitted to Eurostat.
The meeting provided an important opportunity to exchange experiences with Eurostat and statistical institutions from enlargement countries, as well as to present the results and modern solutions developed by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia as part of its continued integration into the European Statistical System.
