The UNECE Workshop on Supporting Standards is an international conference focused on the modernization of official statistics. It was organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and hosted by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis) in Wiesbaden, Germany. This year's conference gathered more than 60 in-person participants from national statistical offices: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, Montenegro, Ukraine, Canada, Mexico, Israel, Indonesia, international organizations: UN, IMF, Eurostat etc. and central banks, providing a platform for sharing experiences and best practices related to the modernization of statistical production and the use of emerging technologies.
The 2026 edition was held under the theme “The role of standards and architectures to ensure successful business transformations in times of disruptive change”. The conference addressed challenges and opportunities arising from artificial intelligence (AI), multi-source statistics, and evolving policy and funding environments. The presentation “Architectures: DMSS as a Multi-Source Statistics Use Case” showcased the DMSS IPA project as a practical example of implementing modern statistical architectures and integrating multiple data sources to support evidence-based decision-making at the local level. Participation in this international conference contributed to the dissemination and visibility of the DMSS IPA project among experts engaged in the modernization of official statistics and facilitated the exchange of knowledge and experiences on the future development of multi-source statistical systems and AI-enabled statistical production.
