The internal workshop dedicated to the development of the Labor Market Information System - Labor Market Info

As part of the EU4SORS project - Development of a modern statistical system, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SORS) organized the internal workshop devoted to the development of the labour market information system (DMSS -LMIS), the so-called Labor Market Info.

The goal of the workshop is to provide concept definition and basic functionalities of the system, planned for employers, job seekers, institutions and decision makers. The Labour Market Info system will integrate data from the existing registers and records (Central Population Register, Central Register of Compulsory Social Insurance, records of the Tax Administration, Ministry of Internal Affairs, National Employment Service and private employment agencies, etc.), as well as the results of statistical research/ surveys.

"Our goal is to provide employers, job seekers and decision-makers with reliable and comprehensive data in one place. Through this system, it will be possible to obtain answers to questions such as: which workforce profiles are lacking and where, in which sectors and regions is the greatest employment growth, how long young people are waiting for their first job or how migration affects the availability of labour force in Serbia," said the Acting Director of the RZS, Mr. Branko Josipović.

Workshop participants worked on defining the basic functionalities and structure of the system, discussed the indicators that the system should contain, as well as examples of good practice from the countries that already have similar solutions.

"In the next two years, we will also conduct new surveys - on job vacancies, adult skills and external migration - in order to obtain data that has not been available so far, which is key to understanding the gap between supply and demand on the labour market," emphasized Ms. Vesna Pantelić, Acting Assistant Director of SORS, responsible for the development of the Labor Market Info system.

The workshop program also included a presentation of the development of the Statistical Register of activities ‘ results up to date, as well as work on establishing the metadata system on producers of official statistics, administrative sources and their linkage with the statistical surveys (SIMRIS).

This is the first, initial workshop intended for expert team pf SORS, while in the forthcoming period, the workshop will also be organized for the representatives of all categories of system users - from institutions and employers to job seekers, so that the Labor Market Info system can be developed in accordance with the needs of its future users.
