In 2022, 27 433 958 thousand RSD of budget funds were spent for research and development (R&D) activities in the Republic of Serbia, which is an increase of 3.2% compared to the previous year, 2021.
The share of total budgetary funds for R&D in GDP reached 0.39% in 2022.
The largest percentage of budget funds for R&D went to the government sector (62.5%), followed by the higher education sector (23%), then by funds from abroad with 11.1%, non-financial (business) sector with 2.2%, while 1.2% were allocated to the non-profite sector.
Regarding socio-economic objectives, most of the budget funds allocated for R&D were spent for the objective General advancement of knowledge – R&D financed from general university funds – 22%, followed by the objectives General advancement of knowledge – R&D financed from other sources with 20.3%, and Industrial production and technology with 15.3%. The least funds were spent for the objective Exploration and expoitation of the earth – 0.8%.
Funds planned for the R&D budget for 2023 (before the budget revision) amounted to 26 817 136 thousand RSD. Most funds, 21.8%, are planned for the goal General advancement of knowledge – R&D financed from general university funds.
