In 2020, total expenditures for environmental protection amounted to RSD 46 698.1 million, which is by 10.2% higher than in the previous year. In the structure of the total expenditures for environmental protection, share of environmental protection investments amounted to 39.6%, while current expenditures had the share of 60.4%.

Environmental protection investments in 2020 amounted to RSD 18 470.6 mill, being RSD 6 864.2 million more than in the previous year. The greatest share in the structure of environmental protection investments in 2020 related to air protection, and amounted to 54.9% (RSD 10 134.3 mill).

Current expenditures for environmental protection in 2020 amounted to RSD 28 227.5 mill, presenting the decrease of RSD 2 534.0 mill, relative to the previous year. The greatest share in structure of current environmental protection expenditures in 2020 related to waste management, and amounted to 73.9% (RSD 20 867.5 mill.).

In the structure of environmental protection investments by industry1) sections, share for prevention of environmental pollution amounted to 6.6% (RSD 872.7 mill.), while investments for pollution treatment encompassed 93.4% (RSD 12 268.6 mill.).

In 2020, share of environmental protection expenditures in Gross domestic product equalled 0.8%.
