Total transport of passengers and goods, 2021 and 2022


The total number of transported passengers in international transport in 2022, relative to the previous year, increased by 72.9%. In the observed period, domestic transport of passengers saw also an increase of 16.2%, which influenced the growth of the total number of passengers carried by 19.5%. The total performance in 2022, expressed in pkm, increased by 43.6%, which resulted from an increase in the performance of the domestic transport of passengers by 21.7%, and that of the international transport by 66.7%.

The volume of transported goods in 2022, relative to the previous year, decreased by 3.0%. The domestic transport of goods decreased by 7.1%, while the international transport of goods recorded decrease of export of goods by 7.3%, and import increased by 12.3%, relative to 2021. Operations volume, expressed in tkm fell by 4.2%.

Observed by mode of transport, the total number of passengers carried in road transport increased, relative to the previous year, by 12.3%, which was influenced by the transport of passengers in domestic transport, which grew by 10.6% in 2022, while the number of passengers in international transport went up by 74.3%. The total performance in road transport increased by 29.7%, which indicates a higher average travelled journey in the reference period. The total volume of goods carried in road transport in 2022 was lower than it was in 2021 by 7.7%, while the volume of performance in tkm went down by 3.1%.

The total number of passenger carried in railway transport recorded an increase of 104.8%, compared with the previous year. The realised performance, expressed in passenger kilometres, wend up by 122.0%. The volume of goods exported fell and goods imported recorded growth, while total goods carried in railway transport decreased by 5.0%. The volume of operations in tkm in railway transport fell by 4.3%.

Crude oil pipeline transport saw an increase of 14.0%. In the same period, natural gas pipeline transport went up by 5.1%. The volume of operations, in tkm, was up by 16.7% as far as crude oil transport is concerned.

Air transport, as far as passengers carried and total operations volume are concerned, indicates growth. Transported passengers’ number, compared to the previous year, increased by 73.9%, and total operations volume by 61.0%. When we observe goods transport by air, increase is also noticeable. Namely, in 2022, when compared to 2021, we can notice a growth of quantities of goods transported of 4.5%, and a growth of total operations volume, of 3.5%.

Inland waterways transport in 2022 recorded an increase in the quantities of goods carried by 2.2% relative to 2021. Operations volume in 2022, expressed in tkm decreased by 15.9% relative to 2021.

The border traffic of road passenger vehicles coming into Serbia increased by 10.5% in 2022 if compared to 2021. The number of vehicles with national registration plates increased by 8.6%, while the number of vehicles with foreign registration plates grew by 11.8%. The number of freight vehicles which entered the national territory, increased by 0.5%, and of those which exited by 3.8%.

In telecommunications, the initial communication in mobile telephony decreased by 2.2%, while in fixed telephony the realized minutes decreased by 17.8%, relative to the previous year. Classic mailing, i.e. postal services in 2022, compared to 2021, noted the following movements: payment operations decreased by 8.7%, letter mails decreased by 4.2% and parcels increased by 61.2%.

The total number of employees decreased by 1.9% in relation to the previous year. In pipeline transport the decrease in the number of employees is a direct result of business subject reorganisation.
