The Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SORS) has released a publication titled "Benchmark Revisions of National Accounts: Methodological and Technical Explanations". The publication is intended for the widest audience, aiming to answer the most frequent questions, dilemmas, and key interests of users regarding the reasons for and methods of conducting benchmark statistical revisions of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and national accounts.
As regular, routine, and regulated international activities of national statistical institutions, benchmark revisions are conducted in all European Union member states and across the world in five-year cycles, under the supervision of Eurostat and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The publication provides methodological and technical explanations of the benchmark revision process, with a special focus on the 2024 Benchmark revision, detailing the specific causes as well as the precise effects on the published GDP data.
By releasing this publication, SORS continues to consistently apply the principle of professional transparency and, by meeting user interest, contributes to a better and deeper understanding of the complex process of GDP estimation and national accounts compilation.
