Protection against damaging water effects, 2018

 

The total area defended from flooding amounted to 1 442 379 hectares, presenting the decrease of 9.2%, compared to 2017. Utilized agricultural land represents 66.3% of total protected land. Total length of embankment was 3 411 km. The greatest share in total protected area related to the Danube basin, 73.7%, followed by two other basins, of the Sava – 20.3% and the Morava –6%.
Surface waters flooded 25 843 hectares, out of which 75.2% referred to utilized agricultural land. In the Morava basin, flooded were 16 693 hectares, presenting 86% of total utilized land.
Ground waters flooded 1 222 hectares, whereof 85.8% related to utilized land. The greatest share of utilized agricultural land was flooded in the Morava basin, amounting to 972 hectares.
Drainage system covered 0.3% more land than in 2017. The Danube basin, with 1 942 thousand hectares has the greatest area covered by drainage system, followed by the Sava basin, with 427 thousand hectares and Morava, with 150 thousand hectares. Length of drainage system was by 6.3% increased, compared to the previous year.
In 2018, area of eroded land amounted to 3 834 km2, presenting the decrease of 0.5% relative to the previous year. Reclaimed land amounted to 1 177 km2
