Government budget appropriations for R&D, 2021/2022


In 2021, 26 588 164 thousand RSD of budget funds were spent for research and development (R&D) activities in the Republic of Serbia, which is an increase of 5.3% compared to the previous year, 2020. The share of total budget funds for R&D in the gross domestic product in 2021 was 0.42%.

The largest percentage of budget funds for R&D went to the government sector (62.7%), followed by the higher education sector (22.8%). It is followed by the foreign sector with 11.1%, the non-financial (business) sector with 2.1%, while 1.3% of funds were intended for the non-profit sector. Funds planned for the IR budget for 2022 (before the budget revision) amounted to 22,957,750 thousand. RSD.
