Labour market dynamics in the second quarter 2021


According to the LFS data in the second quarter 2021, number of the employed amounted to 2 831 100, and number of the unemployed to 352 000. Employment rate for the mentioned period amounted to 48.3% which represent an increase of 1.9 pp relative to the first quarter 2021, while unemployment rate, in the same period, had the value of 11.1% and has decreased for 1.7 pp relative to the first quarter 2021.

In the second quarter of 2021 relative to the first quarter of the same year, the number of the employed saw an increase among persons aged 15 and over (+108 800) and an decrease in the number of the unemployed (-47 400) and out of the labour force population (-73 200).

Total employment increased by 108 800, whereof formal employment increased by 31 300, and informal employment increased by 77 600. The greatest increase of formal employment was noted in the section of Accommodation and food service activities (+20 200), Wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+11 400). Increase of informal employment was most contributed by increased employment in the section Agriculture, hunting and forestry (+65 900).

In the second quarter relative to the first quarter 2021 unemployed decreased by 47 400. The largest decrease of unemployment (-37 500) was observed in the age group 15-34, and was registered in Region Juzne i Istocne Srbije (-28 200).
