Industrial production indices, May 2020

 

The industrial production in the Republic of Serbia in May 2020 decreased by 9.3% relative to May 2019, while relative to 2019 average it decreased by 8.8%. Industrial production in the period January – May 2020 decreased by 2.6% compared to the same period last year.

Observed by sections,

In April 2020 compared with May 2019, the following trends were noted:

  • the section of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply – fall of 11.5%,
  • the section of Manufacturing – fall of 9.3%, and
  • the section of mining and quarrying – fall of 3.9%.

 

The data on industrial production by MIGS in May 2020, compared to May 2019, expressed fall in the production of:

  • capital goods, by 24.5%,
  • intermediate products, energy excluded, by 12.5%,
  • durable consumer goods, by 10.5%, and

 

while growth was noted in the production of

  • non-durable consumer goods, by 1.7%.

Industrial production volume in May 2020, compared to May 2019, expressed the following trends:

  • fall in 21 divisions that in the structure of industrial production participate with 84%,
  • growth in 8 divisions that in the structure of industrial production participate with 16%.

 

The largest influence on industrial production fall in May 2020 compared to May 2019 had the divisions of: Generation of electricity, Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, Manufacture of rubber and plastic products, Manufacture of basic metals and Manufacture of refined petroleum products.

The seasonally adjusted industrial production index for May 2020, compared to 20209 average, indicates 9.4% fall of the overall industrial production and 10.0% fall of manufacturing.

The seasonal adjustment of the industrial production index for May 2020, compared to April 2020 average, indicates 10.1% fall of the overall industrial production and 14.5% growth of manufacturing.

The production of small-size enterprises (the number of employees less than 50) that were not included in regular statistical surveys is followed on a sample of the selected units of the section of manufacturing. When the assessment of the industrial production of small-size enterprises of the sample is included, the overall industrial production in May 2020 compared to 2019 average decreased by 8.7% and manufacturing decreased by 6.6%. 

The data on the industrial production in 2020 will be published on the last working day in a month and will refer to the previous month.
