At the end of the school year 2017/2018 in the Republic of Serbia there were 3 350 active regular primary schools, of which 1 134 main schools and 2 216 satellite classrooms. Lectures were attended by 536 528 pupils, of which 478 913 in main schools and 57 615 in satellite classrooms.

The first cycle of primary education (4^th grades) was completed by 64 361 students, among whom the number of males was higher (51.2%) than the number of females (48.8%), while the whole primary education (8^th grades) was completed by 69 586 students – 51.1% males and 48.9% females.
