SORS received the award for champions in the field of open data


Director of the Office for IT and e-Government, Mihailo Jovanovic, Associate professor, PhD, in the presence of Mr. Denis Keefe, British Ambassador to Serbia, and Mr. Stephen Ndegwa, the World Bank Country Manager for Serbia, presented honours for open source champions on December 7th 2018, in Belgrade.

In total, 10 awards were bestowed, out of which five were acknowledged to civil society organizations and five awards to state administration.

Within the state administration, awarded were the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices, the Institute for Public Health of Serbia "Milan Jovanović Batut", the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, the Agency for Business Registers and the Republic Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services, that have opened their data sets, published them on the national Open Data Portal and defined the challenges for proposing innovative ideas in order to improve their own work. They presented their challenges regarding the improvement of availability of medical equipment, better usage of data on municipalities in Serbia (Meet Municipalities in Serbia) and informing citizens about levels and changes in electromagnetic fields.

On behalf of SORS, the award was received by the director Miladin Kovačević, PhD, while the Assistant Director, Olja Musić, presented the challenge "Meet the Municipalities in Serbia" and the new open data portal that SORS put into operation on December 5th , 2018. The Open Data Portal contains 499 indicators grouped in 24 categories.
